Exotic Narcotics is a short informational publication exposing the rarer, lesser known recreational substances worldwide, their effects and the culture associated with it. For example, Tobacco in Native American culture is used as a social and peace-bringing activity whereas Kava in Pacific Islander culture is used for religious, medicinal and social reasons. Each substance also includes a specific object that assists in the administering of the substance. For example, in the aforementioned cultures, a traditional wooden pipe would be used for smoking tobacco, or, a coconut half for drinking Kava liquid out of.
Exotic Narcotics was created as part of a collaboration between fellow designer Kye Taylor and myself.
The booklet is a standard saddle-stitched document printed on thick ivory paper, however the book cover is acetate – a type of transparent printing paper which we opted to use for experimental purposes.
